Unfortunate
I am a huge Davis Sedaris fan. However, his performance was simply not funny. Instead it was filled with endless plugs for other authors and local shopping tips.
Although I give him credit for promoting new writers, this is not the platform. I especially think that opening the show 30 minutes late with another writer, was poor form. The reading at the end, by yet another author, was not appropriate either. I came to see DS.
I believe that DS is far better on the radio. He is witty, funny, and all of the things we have grown to love about him and his storytelling. I will not give him another chance in person.
He even mentioned at one point in the show that all he does is live performances and book tours-sounds horrible boring. I think that he is bored, and should take a break from this type of self (and other) promotion. It is not great PR.
Overall, a very poor showing for a truly brilliant writer and satirist.
